Hematologic Presentation of Metastatic Prostate Carcinoma: A Case Report on a Brca2 Mutated Young Patient

Authors: Samya Hamad Mehanna, Fabio Kendi Kunitaki and Elisa Klug Hansen

Abstract: Prostatic adenocarcinoma is one of the most frequent malignancy amongst men, in most patients with advanced disease (65-75%) end up developing bone metastases. One of the factors linked to such condition is the genectic variability of cancer types, the most aggressive of them are derived from a series of mutations in tumor suppressor genes. BRCA2 is a tumor suppressor gene, the presence of a mutation within this gene increases the chance of developing prostate

Invasive Intestinal Aspergillosis in the Setting of Autologous Graft Versus Host Disease after Hematopoietic Cell Transplant for Multiple Myeloma

Authors: John S Wang, Omar Elghawy, Rachel M Whitehair, Tamila L Kindwall-Keller

Abstract: Autologous stem-cell transplant is used to treat a variety of neoplastic syndromes such as multiple myeloma, chronic myeloid leukemia, and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. In spite of its efficacy compared to other treatments, it predisposes patients to opportunistic infections and in rare cases, autologous graft versus host disease. In recent years, one opportunistic infection in particular, invasive aspergillosis, has become increasingly more common although survival rates remain low due to difficulty in diagnosis.

Leiomyosarcoma Metastatic to the Brain - Clinical Features and Therapeutic Challenges of a Rare Entity

Authors: Holger Schlag, Jonathan Neuhoff, Christoph Hoffmann, Samiul Muquit and Frank Kandziora

Abstract: Brain metastases from leiomyosarcoma are very rare. We present 2 cases of intracranial metastatic leiomyosarcoma, discussing their clinical details, radiological and histological features and treatment outcome. Metastatic leiomyosarcoma to the brain, however, represents a therapeutic challenge, as these tumors are generally resistant to radiation therapy and systemic chemotherapy. Surgery was the treatment of choice in both cases.
